Dental Bonding

Bonding is a perfect solution for minor esthetic challenges. This procedure improves the appearance of teeth that have excess gaps between them, as well as teeth that are chipped, stained, cracked or broken. Bonding materials can also be used to protect an exposed tooth or fill in small cavities. Dr. Mahallati will apply and then sculpt and shape the tooth-colored bonding material. The results look and feel like a natural-looking tooth that will provide the patient with many years of service.

What is the material used for dental bonding?

Composite material is the material of choice for bonding. Its natural look and feel combined with its high level of biocompatibility and good strength make it a suitable material for smaller defects.

What happens during the dental bonding process?

After the tooth preparation (if any) is complete then the surface is prepared for bonding, then different layers of tooth-colored material are skillfully applied, shaped and finally polished to a high luster. The end result will look and feel like natural teeth.

Does dental bonding require anesthesia?

Sometimes, anesthesia is required during dental bonding, which is dependent upon the size and depth of the preparation. There are times when there is no need for anesthesia. When anesthesia is required the gentle and skillful administration of the anesthesia will put the most apprehensive patient at ease.

Is dental bonding safe and effective?

Yes. Due to the very high degree of biocompatibility dental bondings are very safe. More so in recent years, especially with the advances in material science the color stability and longevity of the material has improved significantly making bonding the material of choice for many different situations.

At times, in the hands of a skillful operator, different colors are mixed to create a restoration that is in perfect harmony with its surroundings.

Does the dental bonding material change color over time?
